Tessa makes one of a kind appliqué quilts. Approached as practical paintings, the works are a result of experimental and sustainable making; produced as one-off pieces or designed and made in limited editions.
The quilts are made using self-taught traditional needle construction skills. Each piece is composed, cut, appliquéd, quilted and bound by hand.
After sourcing end-of-line and salvaged linens and cottons, Tessa applies her distinctive use of colour with dyes and paints.
The designs are composed by referring to mood boards created for each new work or collection, whilst playfully utilising the restrictions of small-batch materials.
Tessa works from her home studio in Yorkshire.
These quilts are the perfect size for a small crib or a moses basket, and once outgrown, they make a beautiful wall hanging for a nursery or other room in the house.
